What do you learn at a hip hop dance class?

Posted on Saturday in learn hip hop dancing | by

Please don’t put something stupid like "You learn how to dance hip hop" or something like that.

I mean like kind of dance moves do you learn?

Does hip hop mean modern dancing or break dancing?

I’m thinking about joining a dance class, and I didn’t want to learn jazz or something like that. If you can include videos to you answer that would be wonderful! Thanks(:

it depends on the class you go and the style of hip hop the instructor teaches…a lot of classes teach choreo-based hip hop (also called west coast or lyrical hip hop)…in that type of class the instructor will teach a routine with the class level determining how difficult, complicated, and long the routine is…beginner level classes the routine is short and simple with lots of opportunity to repeat and practice what was learned in that segment…in harder classes the routine is more difficult and longer with more being learned before practicing the moves…however technically there is no learning of the "basic dance moves" in these classes since the style doesnt have things like a basic step like a six-step in breaking…

other classes that teach other styles of hip hop (like krump or housing or breaking)…for more beginner classes they will teach the basic moves for that style and break down how to do them…as the classes get more advanced the instructors usually have the students either work on a routine or performance-styled piece or have them freestyle and battle in the class to work on their style and personal flavor…

I have been dancing for my entire life pretty much. I learned hip-hop when i was in 7th grade. You learn a variety of things. Isolation’s. Sharp movement. You’re in plie a lot. Hip-cop consists of african, some modern, contemporary, and a small amount of jazz. You will gain a strong core from hip-hop if you start to become more advanced. There are different styles of hip-hop too. Look into an intermidiate class or something if you’re older. You don’t want to be in a class with a bunch of little kids who aren’t really doing hip hop.

you wont learn much except for the basic dance moves you see nowadays so called "hip hop" dancers do. You can forget about learning break dance moves there…i advice u learn it on your own from youtube videos or from your friends. They wont teach you awesome moves because they might get scared that you would hurt yourself and they don’t want to be reliable for your injury.

I learned some basic moves and few break dance moves from movies and youtube videos(a lot).

    Hip Hop means Knowledge!

Depends on your studio. I don’t learn anything specific; teachers at my studio teach dances and you learn from them.

you learn the basics of hip hop dance, you might watch some videos of popular hip hop dancers , etc
hip hop does not mean modern nor break dance . check out some youtube videos to get the basic understanding of that style of dance . You should take the beginners class (if you’re new to hip hop) and just enjoy it. Do not worry, they won’t make you choreograph the dance routine or anything like that. Just go to the class and try not to miss too many meetings(then you’ll get lost) and do NOT give up(it might look hard at the beginning) just take your time and be patient. Your body needs to get used to that kind of dancing. Good luck and just dance :) :)
