What do colleges think about dance compared to sports?

Posted on Monday in so you think you can dance | by

Next year I am starting high school, and i aim to do 10 hours a week in ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, plus competition. I was wondering if colleges look at dance the same way they do sports, because dance is the same commitment as sports are. So do colleges think less of dance then they do sports?

you'll be fine! colleges are just looking to see if you are involved with activities other than school. being involved and well rounded is the most important thing for them when they are accepting students. i know this is far down the road, but keep your mind open for opportunities through dance that can bring you to other things, like volunteering and teaching cause these show that you are committed to dance as more than just a hobby, but something you care about too. these experiences can also build a good college essay.
in my opinion, having dance on your college resume shows alot of commitment, and hey, sport kids only do that sport for the season, while dancers don't stop!
stay involved and work hard and colleges will notice that, no worries.
