Surf Ski Technique

Fitness Training for The Physically Challenged

Physically challenged people are just regular people with less ability to do harder fitness trainings. Their situation can never be a hindrance in keeping shape as already proven by many in the same shoes. Having limitations in body movements and body parts do not mean limitations in achievements and wellness. Although it is harder than the normal methods, keeping physically fit despite the challenges can be easy when done the correct way. What are the things to keep in mind for better coping in challenging situations?

1. Set boarders, not limits.
Although limiting yourself according to what your physical attributes can do is never healthy, setting boarder lines to keep distance with a certain goal is recommended. You can do what any regular guy can do, but you can do them probably the harder way. Do not strain yourself in forcing to finish a five-kilometer track like a trained runner can do. You can do it, but with a longer time. Set realistic goals so you want have a difficult time in looking at the benefits of your training.

2. Do not identify yourself as handicapped. Identify yourself with your situation.
There are specific training methods for different kinds of people. Physically challenged people tend to generalize the notion of themselves against regular people. Always remember that even fit people cannot do what other fit people can do. It is not about discrimination but about practicality. A runner probably cannot do what a body builder can do. You probably cannot do what a runner can do but that is not because of your situation. It is because of the fact that not all people have the same capabilities.

3. Being physically challenged can still challenge limitations.
Like I said, do not set limits. Anything is possible unless proven impossible. Every case is unique. Unless there is someone exactly like you with the same will, mind and spirit, then this may not be true. Fortunately enough, every people is unique. Try to break barriers by doing what others in your case may not normally do.

4. The word training implies something to be achieved even for regular people.
If you cannot do something now, it is because you are just about to start training. If you are having a hard time walking, then just train your legs. Everyone starts from scratch. Bodybuilders are not born with six pack abs. Runners are not born with agile feet.

Group salsa lessons are a fun, social, and affordable way to learn how to salsa dance. Some group classes can be as large as 40 people or as small as 5. The average class size at 15-20 people and oftentimes students are required to rotate partners through out the evening. If you’re a guy, this helps you learn to lead different women. If you’re girl, this helps you learn how to follow different leading styles. Students who take group classes on regular basis also form friendships and there is no better place to meet a potential dance partner then in a salsa class.

People who get a lot out of group salsa classes are usually very good at following directions and well coordinated. People who are active in martial arts, yoga, sports, or other forms of dancing usually can follow their dance instructor with relative ease. On the other hand, people who are poorly coordinated may find themselves struggling to keep up in their first few classes.

That is the unavoidable downside of group lessons. They are a one size fits all solution. I teach a weekly salsa class in Times Square that ranges from 15-30 people. I have to teach at a pace that accommodates everyone in the room. Therefore some people will feel the class is too fast while others may feel the class is too slow. The other downside of group salsa lessons is the instructor can’t give you individual attention. That means if your executing a move incorrectly, the instructor may not even notice because he/she is watching the entire class and not just you. Having that critical eye focused only upon you is why you may want to consider spending a little more for private salsa instruction.

Private salsa lesssons usually cost some where in the range of $80 – $100. It’s about 4x more than what you would pay for a group class. On the other hand, students who take private lessons learn at a much quicker pace and can cut your learning curve in half. The instructor has his/her attention focused on teaching you and you only which will prevent you from picking up bad habits. Most people pick up bad habits with out knowing it. Small things like not being wary of your posture or moving your hips the wrong way take a very long time to unlearn once they have become a habit. A good salsa instructor will keep you on the right path and weed out any potential bad habits at the first sign. Thus a student who wants to have a more refined technique and accelerate their learning ought to take private salsa lessons.

Private salsa lessons are also the way to go if you are not some one who learns well in large groups. The most important thing for an absolute beginner is to have a proper foundation. People who are new to salsa and have a below average sense of coordination may find themselves struggling to keep up in a group class. If this is the case, consider a few one on one sessions at a pace that you feel comfortable with. You can take group classes once you have developed a good grasp of the basics. The great thing about private salsa classes is that they can be custom tailored to meet your needs. You may want to take private lessons for any of these reasons listed: 1. You’re an absolute beginner and need things broken down more. 2. You already know the basics but find yourself unable to move past a sticking point. 3. You want to further refine your technique beyond what your group classes can offer.

The one main benefit that group classes have over private lessons is the opportunity to practice with many different dance partners. Learning to follow and learning to lead is a skill that develops over time through experience. One must practice with many different people in order to gain the experience necessary to develop this ability. I believe the optimal way to learn is to take both private and group lessons hand in hand. This gives you the critical one on one attention along with regular partner-work experience.

One of the main reasons people quit an exercise program is a lack of motivation and goal setting. Now more and more are turning to dancing salsa in order to help with their exercise regimes. You may start an exercise program in hopes of losing weight and becoming more fit but dancing salsa is more fun and you are more likely to stick with dancing rather than having to go to the gym.

However, as you continue exercising, you may feel that you’re putting in so much effort but gaining so little. You become unmotivated because it’s just too much work so that is why more and more are turning to the cuban style of this particula pastime and the more popular ney york style for their exercise and social activities.

Salsa dancing is such a great pastime to get involved with, you can meet people easily and make friends for life. However, one of the main things that you should do immediately is to learn the salsa dance steps as this will act as a great foundation from which you can build to become a great salsa dancer. It is recommended that you attend salsa lessons regularly and in between the lessons, make sure you practice that which you learnt the previous week in order to build on you salsa dancing skill levels.

There are of course a multitude of types of salsa from which we can choose in order to get exercise and to use from a social perspective to meet new people and; to widen our circle of friends. When one gets to know the different types of salsa including new york style salsa, mambo, miami style, puero rican style salsa etc. One cannot help but fall in love with the cuban style of salsa dancing.

It is generally regarded that this form of salsa stands apart from other styles of salsa as in it seen to interpret the music very closely with the use of the basic salsa steps. The cuban salsa bands and the cuban salsa attire all adds to the styles that the genuine cubans bring to the whole world of learning to dance salsa. If you have not yet experience cuban salsa, check it out as soon as you can.

The other great thing about choosing to socialize using this particular pastime is that, it does stand out above some of the other social activities as one of the greatest ways to meet new people. Often we are faced with the situation of having to move to a new town or city, we may be single and not know many people. Also the people we work with may not have the same social persuasions as we do – that is where salsa comes in.

With this, we can get out into the community and meet those new people and then they new place rapidly becomes our home. As with anything else; you are advise to really try to master the basics and get a good foundation as this will serve you well as you look to really improve your skill and move on from just the basic dancing level.

According to some sources , salsa dance was created by either Puerto Rican or Cuban immigrants at that time. Salsa is one of the most popular forms of ballroom dance. Learning to dance Salsa is taking the world by storm. You will find salsa lessons springing up all over in school hall, clubs and bars. But how good are the lessons and how do you know if the instructor is up to scratch? Salsa music is complicated, may beats interwoven, and it takes time to tune your ears and feet to the rhythms.

To understand the popularity of salsa music and dance you need to experience it. In Salsa dancing, ladies should make use of their body and be sensual, playful and creative. More and more people are joining the Gym these days but pumping iron or running on the treadmill is not the only way to get fit. There is a much more fun way to get sweaty in the name of fitness.

Some Benefits From Dancing Salsa:

1.Its history, although controversial, could not change the fact that once you danced salsa you would forever be charmed by it.
2. It is an excellent workout exercise that combines aerobic and anaerobic training.
3. Salsa dancing is emerging as a refreshing replacement for conventional aerobic exercises.
4.Now Salsa dance lessons are not only good for the body but are also good for the mind.
5.Experts say that dancing salsa can burn up to 10 calories a minute, without the negative side effects of high impact exercises such as running.
6. Salsa is also an excellent exercise choice because it combines individual dance routines that can also be paired up with a partner.
7.That is why you should definitely consider salsa dancing as a way to lose those extra pounds but at the same time have fun while doing it.
8.Salsa dancing is one of the best ways to enjoy yourself while also getting in shape.

Some Tips In Learning Salsa:

1.If you don’t know how to walk elegantly, watch movies, search the web and study everything about being elegant.
2.There are a lot of Salsa lessons taking place in clubs, these have free dancing afterwards which is invaluable in helping you to fix what you have learn in the lesson in your head.
3.Stay focused on what is being taught.
4.By joining a class that runs in a set number of week at a time they are likely to be structured and have a clear focused on where you will be at the end of the set of Salsa lessons.
5.The leader (usually the man) should have constant tension in his arms, while his hands guide his Salsa dancing partner around the floor.

Some Basic Steps:

1.The basic footwork is a fairly simple walking motion, pausing every fourth beat, and there are some six basic steps you can follow to make sure you’re on the right tracks.
2. Salsa music is played in 4/4 with beats 4 and 8 representing a pause and the other beats representing steps.
3. Forward Break – You start from either foot and step forward; then you replace the weight to your previous support foot, keeping it in place.

Cuban Salsa

If you have the right technique, Cuban Salsa is easier to learn than many other forms of dance. To dance Cuban Salsa well it is important not to rush, but to relax into the steps. For some unknown genetic reasons, Cubans seems to be born with super flexible joints to do all these difficult maneuvers! Somehow many of their turns seem to defy body geometry! Just as you think that a particular move must be impossible, they’ll come up with something that is even more complex!

Some Attire Tips;

1.Whether you are looking for a salsa dress to wear to your favorite nightclub, a salsa dress for an upcoming competition or a dress for your prom night, the salsa dress you decide should make you look and feel your best.
2.Cotton fabrics are always a good choice.

Okay, so you can meet girls in the coffee shop, in a quiet bar, and maybe even in the supermarket. But how do you approach a girl who cant hear you and is dancing with her friends?

You want to differentiate yourself from the other guys on the dance floor. Do this by not making the same mistakes that they are making. These guys are doing a couple of things that you should not do. They will be doing one of the following:

Standing around the girls checking them out while not dancing.

Making a sad attempt to dance whilst not being into the music, but just trying to get near the girls.

Grinding on a girls ass.

The result of this kind of approach is that it is a complete numbers game. Generally youll only get a certain kind of girl responding to approaches like this.

So now you know what not to do, how do you actually pick-up girls who are dancing?

Here are a couple of things you can do to pick-up on the dance-floor:

First, have fun dancing around. Dont try to get near the woman. Enjoy yourself, enjoy the music. When you are a man having fun on the dance-floor, you will immediately stand out from all the other men. The women will move away from all the other weird guys and gather around you.

You can then:

Mirror the girls dancing in an exaggerated funny way, get eye contact and force a positive reaction from her and then move in and dance with her.

Have a dance-off with the girl where you gesture to get her to watch your moves, bust a silly little move, then point at her expectantly. If she reacts positively, move in and dance with her.

On the edge of the dance-floor with girls that are not quiet dancing, you can say do you like dancing? If they say yes, say do you salsa? and as you say it take them and start salsaing with them. You need about 4 salsa lessons to be able to do the basic steps, which are all you need. You can quickly escalate the physical element of the seduction from the salsa opener.

The goal on the dance floor is to dance with them, escalate physically a little bit, and then lead them to a quieter location where she is isolated and you can talk to her. Sit down or go to the bar with her.

When you have mastered dance-floor game, you will be able to pick-up women non-verbally in a highly sexual environment. Its a rare skill and youll quickly see results.
