Yesterday I was taking my Basset Hound for a walk and this young girl is walking this German Shepherd who is clearly pulling her down the street towards my dog. He`s barking crazily, panting and clearly wants my dog…NOW. I’m not going to lie, I panicked, so I took Watson to the other side of the street. The German Shepherd pulls this girl over to my dog and runs up to him all barking crazily and stuff, and my dog of course is scared so he has his tail between his legs and he peed himself…total submission, I was wondering if he was going to go belly up because that’s what he does, he’s a wimp. Anyways, I was yelling at this girl to not let her dog come over to me, and that she should have better control of her dog. Well, so much for that obviously. Thankfully, all the dogs did was sniff each other and they even did the little play bow dance for a bit, but then I told her I had to go. But TRUST ME, I was scared my dog was going to get eaten for lunch by this dog by the way it was acting towards us before it came up to my dog.

What would you have done in this situation? I tried to avoid this girl and her dog by going to the other side of the street and I told her not to bring her dog over to me. What can I do in this situation, when people/young kids think it’s alright for dogs to "play" when they are out. My dog is fine with other dogs, but at times I worry about him as he is very submissive towards other dogs and probably couldn’t defend himself well or at all if he got into a dog fight…I guess that is my main fear a dog fight,so how can I avoid this happening with other people’s dogs when they won’t listen!

Sorry for the long story, I just had to get my anger out at people who can’t control their animals!
She was a kid…I felt bad for yelling at her. She didn`t know any better obviously, she probably weighed less than her dog.
Yes, he is very well socialized. When I first got him we camped at our national park lots and he got to see tons of people and dogs of all breeds and sizes so that`s not the issue. I think literally he was thinking, “Holy S***!`This dogs gonna eat me!“ lol

In this situation I would have raised holy heck and made that lady know that she was not to come onto the other side of the street near me in any certain terms. I promise I would have made her more scared of me then anything else.

From now on, I would carry some type of protection with me while walking my dog, legal of course. That could be a baseball bat, pepper spray, electric cattle prod.

I would have ABSOLUTELY gone to the other side of the street and had this idiot still dared to approach me I would have informed her quite loudly that I would be going postal on her and her dog if they got any closer.

I see so many idiots with aggressive dogs that I do not take my dogs out in situations where I will run into them. These people are SO clueless about their dogs.

A baseball bat is a great deterrent, an idiotic owner will think twice (ok at least one time) before approaching you if you start wielding that bat.
