Is ballroom dancing difficult to learn?

Posted on Monday in learn ballroom dancing | by

Also, how do I get started? Thank you!

To dance ballroom is very easy if you have a sense of rhthym…the basic steps are easy to remember. To dance ballroom really well is a nightmare to learn…one of the most difficult 'sports ' out there…ask Jerry Rice, a star quarter back who went for it on Dance with the Stars!
If you want to start, I strongly suggest a private studio..they usually have dances on either Friday or Saturday night with a lesson before the dance…group lessons will teach you the basics, and you will dance with many people all doing the same dance moves. Good luck

It depends if you are clumsy or not, and how good you want to be.

If you can walk, you can dance.
Older generation know how to ballroom dancing. Ask you parent or grants to teach you. High School and Colleges also have Social Dance Classes that you can take.

if you put effort into it, it is qiute easy. it really depends on how much you are used to learing new things… any dance, whether you learn it well or not, should be enjoyed. if you are thinking about it, go for it. take the leap/

There are a few basic steps for every dance, and then more complicated moves. I think it is fairly easy, but it can take a lot of time if you really want to be good and do the moves you would see on TV.

Your best bet is to find a college campus and check out their dance club. Often, they are open to community members and have professionals instructors for cheap because college students are poor.

I have been into ballroom and Latin American dancing for 20 years now, I'm a competitor and I would like to say to those who think it's easy…it's NOT!

the basics to most dances are usually pretty simple. some more than others. as you more involved the moves get harder, but if you don't want that yet, you can have a lot of fun with the basics.
a lot of ballroom dance schools, and even some universities, will have free dance nights. they are a great way to find out if you will enjoy ballroom. if you do, go ahead and spring for some lessons. after you get some experience you'll be able to just go dancing at a club and have a blast. (as well as impress those around you)
good luck! i'm sure you'll love it.

It is challenging, but addictive. I started out just taking a few lessons to learn how to dance and now I compete. I went from being clutzy & clumsy to having better posture and some grace. My advice is just do it! Give it a whirl.

Ballroom dancing is as hard as you want it to be.

If you want to meet people, do it socially and take it easy.

If you want to look like the couples you see competing on PBS from time to time, you can spend tens of thousands of dollars and years of your life and not look that good.

Anyone can social dance. It takes talent and determination to compete at the top national or international levels. So it's really a question of your ability, and your desire.

Check the yellow pages or your local free paper for dance studios, and have some fun. Grab a friend to bring with you the first time if you're shy.
