Am I the only one out there who thinks that a lot of gospel music, especially on contemporary christian radio-all sound the same? Is anyone out there concerned? Does anyone miss the heartfelt worship of Keith Green?
I’m sorry, but sometimes when I watch Christian TV, I can’t even listen to some of the singers because I just feel in my spirit that they are up there to perform, but not to bring everyone into the presence of our Lord! Am I the only one out there who feels this way?
The other day I saw the group “Point of Grace” on the show “Life Today” with Betty and James Robison, and my heart was so uplifted! They simply sing to the Glory of God! Those groups are so limited these days!
Is anyone else out there very picky about the music they listen too, and are you ready for a fresh new artist with a new sound who will really uplift your spirit and encourage your walk with the Lord?
Does anyone out there love the Lord? Are you excited about 2007? I believe it is not by accident that you are reading this article.I believe that we need music that is going to touch the heartstrings of the body of Christ this year and simply bring many to know Him as Savior and Lord.
We need singers who are willing to go to all churches large or small, that name the name of Jesus as Lord, and that won’t charge a fee to come, but will just come to usher in the Lord’s presence and to be the special music or mini-concert before pastors preach to their congregations.
Where are the singers who have been fasting, have inate calls of God on their lives to sing, and have created songs while just playing their piano or guitar in their private times of worship? Where are the singers whose parents told them at any early age: “This is what God has called you to do.”
Why is everything so commercialized now? Why is it that when you go to a Christian concerts jokes are being made about “praying to buddha” and then you hear about known Christian artists whom you have been respecting for years, that confess they were addicted to alcohol the whole time. Where are the true singers who have conviction?
I was so saddened recently when I attended a Christian Concert at Knott’s Berry Farm where the band did nothing but look at the girls, dance, and talk about “Bono” from U2 like he was God, and then proceed to do all of this in the name of our Lord. Only one guy even talked about Jesus and that was Mr. Jeremy Camp. He even prayed before he sang. Wow, what a novel concept, do we need to seek the Lord, even though we are talented? Fantastic example Jeremy! You made the night for my wife and I. We were almost ready to walk out before you came up!
Lastly, it’s time to stay close to our Lord in 2007. He loves you beyond what you can ever imagine or think. If you don’t have a personal walk with Jesus, simply pray this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, heal my past, I believe you came and died for my sins, I accept you today as my savior and Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.”
It’s time for new music that sounds fresh and different in the body of Christ. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my thoughts about gospel music and how I’m praying for new talent and fresh songs that hit the heart of the body of Christ. The body of Christ is desperate for new musicians who will sing us back into our Lord’s throne room. When we find those Christian Singers who touch our hearts, gospel music will never be the same.

Keep in' it real. Why do we Christians listen to music that doesn't glorify God?
I struggled with this for a long time. Not too long ago in 2002, I made an attempt to throw away all of my rap cd’s, r&b cd’s, and all my reggae cd’s, in attempt to stop listening to it. Nevertheless, I failed the first time around, but after a devine meeting with a dvd that my brother brought home. This guy was ministering on "The Real Truth Behind Hip-Hop". After watching this dvd, I never looked at music the same again. I now only listen gospel music, because I’m so terrified of this stuff getting too deep into my spirit that it could open me up to be possessed by it, and don’t be fooled, music can do this. I know there will be ignorant remarks to what I have said, but may Jesus bless those who incline their eyes and ears to read and hear what is TRUE.

Comment: I’m not influenced by music. I can listen to it and it won’t even affect me.
RESPONSE: Then why do advertisers pay up to $1,000,000 for 15 minutes of commercial time during the Super Bowl? They know something that you don’t even know about yourself. They can play their commercial jingle and show you pictures of things, and influence you to buy their product in a matter of seconds. Your mouth gets watery, your lips get white, and your stomach starts growling because your hunger and your ears begin to work together to cause you to desire that hamburger! Well, the same goes for sin. Your fleshly man and those lyrics/videos begin to work together to cause you to desire sin. Our flesh is already wicked and desires things that are not of God. So what happens when you mix that with sinful lyrics, or sinful video images?
SCRIPTURE: James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin.
It’s the small things that can send you to hell people. That’s why to handle each problem one at a time. It’s a growing process, and it takes time to get rid of habits and problems. That’s why Jesus offers DELIVERANCE to those that need it.

Only the weak-minded can be so easily influenced.

well, do you feel the music is sinful?
It’s better than walking outside shooting people at least.
I would say focus less on the minor details, but it is good you are looking to purify your spirit.. um i think..

I don’t, but I think most do because they don’t realize how seriously secular music can effect their walk with God. My youth group had a series called "Plugged In" and it said that if we put garbage into our spirit, we will put garbage out. It’s very true.

I totally agree with "safety." A person would have to be VERY weak to allow music to alter their soul, or change their beliefs. To me, music is about listening to other people’s stories and "truths," NOT about trying to turn the listener into something else.

Ya know, my ex-fiance told me this stuff too. He had a whole long thing about how terrible music is and how we should only listen to Gospel. He went so far as to tell me I shouldn’t even listen to Christian rock. I honestly don’t think it’s a problem. I listen to all kinds of music and I still believe firmly in Jesus. Granted, I don’t listen to music that denegrates other people or God, but that doesn’t make me limited to Gospel music. There have been several BEAUTIFUL country songs lately that have a deeply spiritual theme. "When I get where I’m going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton…"I believe" by Brooks and Dunn…"Jesus, take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood…"The little girl" by John Michael Montgomery…"God’s Will" by Martina McBride…the list goes on and on. If you are content listening to just gospel music, that is fine- you have every right, but don’t look down on other Christians who listen to the secular stuff- after all, that wouldn’t be very Christian of you

Okay, I don’t like rap or hip-hop either, but one has to be seriously mental if they create a "watch" list of song lyrics. I went to the site, and most of the songs are about love and sex – two of the most natural and encompassing human experiences. How could you possibly think there something with that?

I’m a Christian, and I don’t listen to Christian rock or gospel or anything like that. I normally listen to The Beatles or oldies when I actually listen to music. I’m not an old person, either!! I’m 23! I think that music is SO much better than any of the crap being put out today.
You don’t have to let music influence your life. Just because people who don’t know anything about The Beatles’ music claim that "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was about an LSD trip, that doesn’t mean I’m going to start using drugs.
CHRISTIAN OR NOT, you don’t let music dictate your actions.

I’ll take your opinion into consideration. God expects us to live our lives normally. As long as we keep our faith in him he will let nothing bad happen to us. Remember God doesn’t turn his back on us we turn our backs on him.
Not all music has a bad message. So I feel that it is ridiculous that the only music we should listen to is gospel just because it has an up beat message. People shouldn’t live their lives in fear of God.
I understand your point because some music is questionable. So you have eliminated the evil music from your life, props to you. But if your going to go to that extreme you better eliminate all sin from your life as well, and you and I both know that, that is like trying to kill every single ant on the face of the planet one by one with a tooth pick. And you and I again know that is impossible.
What I suggest is try eliminating other sin from your life before you jump to the small stuff. I’m not inclining that you are an awful person but I am almost positive that you have done worse things that listen to a couple of songs with negative lyrics.
good question.
