Can you please recommend a good song for a swing dance?

Posted on Saturday in so you think you can dance | by

We'll be performing a group swing dance (4 pairs) with the theme of "vampire" it's supposed to have a story in the dance and to perform effectively; we'll be needing a rather dark – themed music….

Any suggestions?

It will be greatly appreciated (It's a group project)
Thank you.. :)

You aren't really going to find any "dark" themed swing music, as it's all pretty much up tempo stuff you are supposed to dance to!

But I do have some recommendations:

"Watch Out!" by Gene Krupa, has some great hits, tense harmonies, and is a good tempo to dance to:

"Lavender Coffin" by Lionel Hampton isn't creepy at all, but the title is very appropriate for a vampire theme:

"Jack, You're Dead" by Louis Jordan:

and probably one of the best ones . . .

"What You Feel" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical:

Other songs:

Crumbum by Artie Shaw
Headless Horseman by Kay Starr
Little Demon by Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Bo-Ta-La-Za by Slim Gailard
The Gal From Joe's by Duke Ellington
Come On'a My House by Rosemary Clooney
Dolomite by Jimmy Dorsey
Till Tom Special by Charlie Christian

Just to name a few that come to mind. I hope that helps.

If you want a little inspiration about choreographing a simple swing routine, check out this video. It's very clean, but also pretty simple:

If you want to get some assistance, look for your local Lindy Hop instructor. They might be able to help you out with your project.
