At the wedding reception, which do you do first dance or eat?

Posted on Saturday in so you think you can dance | by

My fiance and I are planning our wedding and we’re not sure the order of things at the reception. Upon arriving at the reception do you and your guests eat the wedding feast or dance first? I don’t want people to leave before the father daughter dance, and I also don’t want people to leave before the cake cutting. Im not sure which is a better choice. How do these things normally go?

I’m a DJ and I have seen it done in all different permutations.

Some couples like to dance immediately after the Grand Entrance because they are so nervous they just want to get it out of the way.

Other couples like to eat first then immediately start with the first dance, then father/daughter & mother/son dances, cake cutting, then the guests dance.

It will depend on how you two feel.

Eat I think, while the speeches and toasts are given, then dance until the end.

I think it’s everyone eats then you cut the cake and do the little bride and groom thing then the bride and groom does the first dance together and then they dance with their parents/ relatives and then everyone joins in and does the chicken dance then you do the leg garter thing and then everyone starts to dance again.

Definitely dance: You won’t be waited down by the food.
I’m not a professional, but it just seems like the logical option.
I hope you have a happy wedding :D

Get the boring stuff and negalities out of the way, then finish it out by partying like a rockstar.
Have fun and don’t forget to breathe.

Most weddings I’ve been to the couple ate, then danced, then paused to cut the cake, then danced some more.

I’ve done discos and karaokes at more than a few weddings over the years, and at the end of the day it’s all down to your preference, although it makes more sense to eat first and get it out the way and then you can enjoy the rest of the night dancing and singing and whatever..
