Are courses the only types of dance lessons?

Posted on Sunday in dance lessons | by

I live in Singapore and am looking for a good dance school and realized that most dance schools only offer a short course. Is there no continuous lesson…like a few years or something or can you become a qualified dancer that fast?

ya, they start at a level and then they'll evaluate you (or have a preformance all studios are different) and then you'll move up a level or if thats not the answer you're looking for they also (at least at my studio) have you pay in sessions , in case you end up moving or quiting or miss a class you paid for, etc.

In my experience, which was in the Northeast US, there are several options. There are quick lessons offered before open dances, and often short series of group lessons before a continuing series of open dances. Then there is the classic approach of a series of courses at ever-advancing levels (and lengths, and costs) — apparently pioneered by Arthur Murray. I personally do not do at all well with group classes but have done very well with that last approach — but I have no idea how it works in Singapore (or even in the Northwest US where I have recently moved)!

Alot of studios offer short group classes to get people introduced to a type of dance. If you are really into dance, I would suggest taking private lessons. They can continue for as long as you are willing to take them. Taking private lessons will help correct any bad habits you pick up in group classes, plus give you one on one with a teacher, something you probably won't get in a group class.
